In a game defined by grit and a deafening crowd, the Kokomo Wildkats saw their postseason dreams cut short, falling 53-50 to Harrison in a sectional battle that came down to the final possession. The atmosphere inside the gym was electric as two of the region's powerhouses traded blows for four quarters.
Kokomo relied on their signature physical defense and transition play, keeping the score within a single basket for nearly the entire second half. However, a late-game surge by Harrison and a few missed opportunities proved to be the difference.
"The margin for error in sectionals is razor-thin," said Wildkats' head coach Drew Schauss following the game. "Our guys executed the game plan and fought through every screen. It’s a tough pill to swallow when you play that hard and come up just one shot short."
With seconds on the clock and trailing by three, the Wildkats managed to get one final look from beyond the arc, but the shot rattled off the rim as the buzzer sounded. The loss marks the end of a season characterized by significant growth and a deep bond between the players, including those who traveled from across the globe to wear the Wildkat jersey.
For Schauss, the focus remained on the legacy of his veteran players.
"I told the seniors in that locker room to keep their heads up. They didn't just win games this year; they represented this city with class. That 53-50 score doesn't define who they are as a team."
