Let’s go, Kokomo!

In the heart of Kokomo, there exists a profound connection to a remarkable chapter in American history—the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen. During World War II, this brave group of over 15,000 men & women not only excelled as combat pilots but also served in vital roles as technicians, medical personnel, & more. Among them were two distinguished Kokomo High School graduates: Lt. Col. Bennett G. Hardy & Second Lt. John M. McClure.✈️
Lt. Col. Hardy was a proud 1939 graduate of KHS, where he ran track & was a member of the Varsity K Club. In 1943, he married Betty Jane Newsome, also a KHS grad. During his 29-year career in the Air Force, he soared through the skies as a member of the CAF Red Tail Squadron, bravely flying missions over North Africa & Italy. His service was posthumously
honored with the Congressional Gold Medal🎖️ recognizing his commitment to his country.
Similarly, Second Lt. John McClure holds a special place in our local history. A dedicated track athlete, he graduated from KHS in 1938. Following his graduation, he joined the United States Air Force & graduated from the prestigious Tuskegee Advanced Air School. Between high school & the Air Force, he married Daisy Davidson, who served as a KSC Teacher for 13 years at Douglas Elementary School. His valiant efforts as part of the 99th Fighter Squadron included engagement in critical missions, although an unfortunate crash curtailed his flying career, leading to his early passing.
🖼️ Students throughout our KSC district have been attending the Tuskegee Airmen Exhibition at the Kokomo Art Association Artworks Gallery, where they have been experiencing this rich history firsthand. The exhibition is available to the public, with students receiving FREE admission, from 12-4 p.m. through the end of February.

🏊♀️✨Congratulations to Kokomo High School senior Aubrey Simmons for her accomplishments at the IHSAA Girls State Swimming Finals! At this month’s board meeting, our KSC Board of School Trustees proudly recognized Aubrey with a medal & a resolution, which highlighted her outstanding performance at state: finishing 13th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.91 seconds & securing 3rd place in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.42 seconds!
🐟KHS Varsity Swim Coach Zachary Whiteman & KHS Athletic Director Nick Sale each spoke about Aubrey's exceptional achievements, emphasizing her dedication, talent, & the pride she brings to our Kokomo Katfish swim team.
As a 5-time school record holder, North Central Conference champion, Sectional champion, and a 4-time state qualifier with three podium finishes, Aubrey is an inspiration for both current & future Wildkats.

🏈Hey Wildkat nation! Coach Small & our KHS Football Team are already ahead of the game! At KHS, we know that putting in the work off the field during the off-season is just as important as game day.
Recently these KHS student athletes have been visiting our middle schools - Bon Air, Central, & Maple Crest - to connect with rising KHS Kats.
🐾These visits are about more than just football; they are about mentorship, teamwork, & the spirit of our Kokomo Wildkat community.
Coach Small is incredibly proud of our team members for their commitment to give back to the community that supports them!
ONWARD KOKOMO!
