In preparation of the opening of the Integrated Arts program
at Central International School, curriculum has been designed to
incorporate the integrated arts approach to all subject areas. Units
have been written to incorporate the Indiana state standards, as well as
incorporate curriculum design, to support and infuse arts methods into
the integrated arts classes.
Professional development is currently
being provided to teachers who will be teaching in the Integrated Arts
program. Central teachers have had the opportunity to visit and observe
the classrooms at Wallace and continue to collaborate with Wallace
teachers in order to develop a better understanding of how to infuse
Integrated Arts methods in the curriculum. The Integrated Arts teachers
at Central are working with Butler University to transition the program
to the middle school level and to ensure our approach is similar to that
of Wallace. Our teachers will have future opportunities to attend
training at the Kennedy Center. In addition, a teacher from Wallace will
be assisting with the transition of Wallace students to the IA program
at Central.
For the opening of the 2014-2015 school year, Central featured renovated classrooms with flexible furniture for the
addition of the Integrated Arts program. These spacious classrooms will
allow students to collaborate on project based activities. In addition,
Central will have a new media center and dance studio, which will be
used for the Dance & Movement class, as well as Ballroom
Dancing/Ballet. The studio will consist of a seating area for
performances. Central's 100th anniversary celebration will
take place this fall with the opening of our renovated auditorium.
Photos and blue prints of the original 1914 auditorium were used to
restore the auditorium to its original state.
